A botched business venture is backfiring for a voluptuous "Jersey Shore" guidette. Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki, sued a group of business partners in October, and now those partners are fighting back in court.
A countersuit by SRG Ventures seeks $7 million in damages against Snooki. SRG claims Snooki sabotaged her own business opportunities by courting other companies and messing up merchandising deals, the New York Post reports.
What did those deals include? Here are just a few products the world will probably never get to see, according to the Snooki lawsuit:
- Snooki-brand shoes.
- Snooki lingerie.
- Snooki wristwatches.
- And yes, even Snooki-approved school supplies.
Snooki's original suit, filed in October, gives SRG Ventures an "F" for failing to find adequate branding opportunities, and for failing to land Snooki enough money in those deals. Snooki's suit seeks to get her out of the SRG licensing deal.
The Snooki lawsuits are based in contract claims, but it's not clear what the terms of their contract were. In general, a party that breaches a contract may be held liable for damages to compensate for a non-breaching party's expenses.
If money damages are inadequate, a non-breaching party may sometimes be able to seek specific performance -- a court order requiring the wrongful party to fulfill his part of the bargain as stated in the contract. That probably won't happen here, as the Snooki countersuit specifically asks for money damages.
The Snooki lawsuits are just two in a series of "Jersey Shore"-related legal actions. Fellow cast member Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is suing Abercrombie & Fitch for a trademark violation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Another "Jersey Shore" star, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, is being sued by both a tanning-lotion company and her ex-boyfriend.
