Wiz Khalifa has a warrant for his arrest in Texas after he skipped a court hearing in El Paso for a May marijuana arrest.
The young rapper, born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was supposed to appear in court Wednesday to be arraigned for a misdemeanor pot possession charge. TMZ reports that when he was busted in May for allegedly trying to sneak weed through the El Paso International Airport, he snapped a selfie "and tweeted it out."
Now that there's a warrant out for his arrest, what will happen to the weed-loving rapper?
'Black and Yellow' Rapper a No-Show in Court
"Black and Yellow" rapper Wiz Khalifa may be feeling a bit more blue after a Texas judge issued a warrant for his arrest. According to WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh (apparently the rapper's hometown), Judge Ricardo Herrera issued a bench warrant for his arrest after Khalifa failed to appear in El Paso County misdemeanor court.
According to El Paso County Jail records, Khalifa had bailed himself out for his pot misdemeanor in late May on a $300 cash bond. That means Khalifa put down $300 cash to be bailed out of jail, on the explicit promise that he would return for his next court date. By not showing up at his Wednesday arraignment, Khalifa forfeited his privilege to be out of jail custody, and the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
It's unclear where Wiz Khalifa is now, but he's not completely indisposed. His phone interview with The Detroit Free Press about his new album "Blacc Hollywood" published yesterday.
This Isn't Wiz's 1st Pot Arrest
Khalifa's arrest in El Paso for marijuana possession certainly wasn't his first run-in with the law over weed. The singer of "28 Grams" (which is equivalent to one ounce... of something) was arrested for pot possession in Tennessee in 2012 at a Holiday Inn. The Associated Press reported that about a month later, the rapper was cited for marijuana possession in North Carolina for allegedly smoking pot on his tour bus.
Generally, first-time offenders who are caught with small amounts of marijuana may be given probation and/or community service. However, when a defendant like Khalifa has an extensive criminal history of possession and a penchant for disobeying court orders, the court's leniency may go up in smoke.
But as Wiz Khalifa says, everything he does, he does it big.
