5 New Law Student Debt Relief Resources...and How to Apply

Equal Justice Works offers a number of resources to alleviate the burden of law student loan debt. Here are five recent student debt relief resources they have highlighted, and applications where applicable. Good luck!

1. Civil Legal Assistance Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program (CLAAP)

For: Public interest lawyers, non-legal public service employees, law students, law school professionals, financial aid advisors, public service employers

Description: New loan repayment assistance program for civil legal aid attorneys. The Civil Legal Assistance Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program (CLAAP) will repay a portion of eligible federal student loan debt for civil legal assistance attorneys who are employed full-time.

2. Equal Justice Works Student Debt Relief Webinars

For: Public interest lawyers, non-legal public service employees, law students, law school professionals, financial aid advisors, public service employers

Description: Learn about student debt relief programs and the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. Attend free, live webinars to learn more about public service loan forgiveness, income-based repayment and how to qualify.


3. John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program (JRJ)

For: State and federal public defenders, public interest lawyers, law students, law school professionals, financial aid advisors,

Description:  The John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program (JRJ) provides loan repayment assistance for state and federal public defenders and state prosecutors who agree to remain employed as public defenders and prosecutors for at least three years.

4. College Cost Reduction and Access Act - Income-Based Repayment

For: Public interest lawyers, non-legal public service employees, law students, law school professionals, financial aid advisors, public service employers

Description: Comprehensive information about the Income-Based Repayment plan including which borrowers are eligible, what you can expect your payments to be, and how to sign up. Tools include calculators, downloadable worksheets, podcasts and an interactive forum.

 

5. Law School Loan Repayment Assistance Programs

For: Lawyers currently employed in public service, law students, law school professionals, financial aid advisors, private sector lawyers

Description: Comprehensive information about Law School Loan Repayment Assistance Programs including which law schools have programs, how the programs work, and how to start or expand a law school based Loan Repayment Assistance Program. Tools include searchable data, a model program, podcasts and an interactive forum.
