It's that time when we taken inventory of our life, and give thanks for all the wonderful people and opportunities we have in our lives. Since we're in a festive mood here at FindLaw, here are some of the reasons we are thankful this Thanksgiving ...
This Thanksgiving also marks the first day of Hanukkah, a very rare occurrence. An cleverly entitled article "Gobble Tov," The Associated Press reports that the last time this happened was in 1888, and the next time it will happen in 79,043 years. If you celebrate Thanksgivukkah, then get ready for the recipe mashups -- maybe latkes and apple pie, instead of apple sauce. We're already hungry.
2. You're Alive!
If you're reading this, we're betting you're alive. Which is excellent considering lawyers have such a high rate of suicide. Don't get down in the dumps, all you have to do is drink coffee to lower your risk of suicide. You're here now, so you must be doing something right.
3. The Tax Man ...
... will likely not come after us as a tax study has revealed that we're quite honest when it comes to filing our taxes. In fact, "[l]awyers.. are the least likely to cheat," according to Time. Maybe because our heads still hurt from tax class and we don't want to mess with we know to be an already complicated filing system.
4. You're (Not) a Psychopath
A recent book asserts that the job "lawyer" is the number two profession to attract psychopaths, surpassed only by CEO, reports TheBlaze. Why is this a good thing? Well, according to LiveScience, psychopaths only make up about one-percent of the population, so the actually likelihood of you being a psychopath is still small.
5. You have a ...
Fill in the blank. If you're reading this column then you either: (a) have a legal job; and/or (2) a JD; or (3) are studying for a J.D.; and/or (4) a device that connects to the Internet. That makes you pretty lucky when you consider the state that most people across the world find themselves in.
We hope you have a great holiday, and hopefully some deserved time off. Happy Thanksgiving (or Thanksgivukkah)!
