7 Sensational Pets for Loving Lawyers

February 20 is "Love Your Pet Day." Don't believe us? Check Google. Lawyers everywhere have hearts not as black as coal, but sentimental cavities full of pink, fluffy wuvs which they often share with their pets.

In celebration of the furry and scaly friends which lawyers love, we present seven sensational pets to lavish your unrequited love on:

1. Chihuahuas

These tiny rexes were first openly pimped by fictional lawyer Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde." They also made our list for dogs for busy associates. For professionals who desire control, a teeny Chihuahua may be a perfect fit, as you may find yourself controlling everything from their miniscule doggy wardrobe, to their mobility.

Chihuahuas are almost always available at local shelters.

2. Labrador Retrievers

Not only are labs incredibly good-tempered and affectionate, the Chicago Tribune reports they're also the American Kennel Club's (AKC) most popular breed for 23 years in a row. Like many lawyers, these dogs are extremely versatile, bred to work/hunt, and should eat omega fatty acids to ensure a lustrous coat.

Well, maybe not that last one.

3. Mutts

If the ratings of dogs from some snooty kennel club turn you off like hearing your colleagues talk about BigLaw, maybe a mutt is more up your alley. They come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and colors, and often don't suffer from the same genetic maladies that come from purebred inbreeding (check out hybrid vigor).

4. Any Cat

Not gonna lie, yours truly is not a cat person. Yet many cats can provide lawyers something low maintenance to love on while under the thumb of a tough case. Contrary to reports, cats will provide you some affection in return if you pet them properly. Check out some more exotic cat breeds if you need a way to spend your first bonus.

5. Pit Bulls

Perfect for any seasoned litigator. When not abused or mistreated, these dogs can be total sweethearts. And as their loving, court-ready owner, you can be ready for any potential suits where your pet is considered "inherently dangerous."

6. Betta ('Fighting Fish')

If you feel like something less cuddly but just as striking, consider a betta. Also known as Siamese fighting fish, they can live up to four years in a tiny bowl of fresh water, making them an aesthetically minimal yet elegant pet.

7. Pet Rock

Come on, you had to expect something like this to make the list. Pet rocks are a perfect pet for a lawyer who is absolutely never at home, but from time to time finds some sort of Zen peace in contemplating a stone. And yes, they still sell them.

No matter what your pet looks like, dispel the cold-hearted lawyer myth, and show it some love today!
