What's one part cinnamon roll, one part cake has a small plastic baby Jesus inside? Why the FindLaw King Cake in celebration of Mardi Gras of course!
The cake, baked with love by our own Mardi Gras veteran Robyn Hagan Cain, has been making its way around the office lately.
You may not know it by looking at us, but we here at FindLaw are big fans of The Big Easy and Fat Tuesday.
Great costumes, fun music and of course colorful beads everywhere... Mardi Gras is fun for the sake of having fun. And here at FindLaw, we love to have fun. Many employees here have been to Mardi Gras multiple times and all agree that once is never enough.
"There's really nothing else like Mardi Gras in the U.S.," said Editorial Blogs Editor Adam Ramirez. "I defy you to have a bad time in New Orleans... ever... much less leading up to Fat Tuesday.
"This year my California friends and I are going to rove around the French Quarter as hippies and flower children. We're going to be the California Love Krewe. We're using a Winnebago as a prop. I'm not making this up."
Adam will be making the flight from Northern California to New Orleans this year for the celebration and hopefully return with beads for the whole office.
Mardi Gras and New Orleans can make people do things they normally wouldn't. Take Digital Strategy and Social Media Manager Stephanie Rahlfs.
"I'm a vegetarian, but I throw all that out the window for the buttermilk fried chicken breast at NOLA restaurant. I really love New Orleans," Rahlfs said with a wide-eyed grin.
Robyn, our illustrious king cake baker and blog writer, has a lifetime of Mardi Gras memories.
"There are bright colors, great music, crazy costumes, parades, and balls," Robyn recalled wistfully. "As for the King Cake... it's copious amounts of sugar, and it's delicious. What's not to love?"
Here is a shot of her 2012 creation (it was delicious but no word on the Baby Jesus' whereabouts):
FindLaw is not only a great place to work because of all the exciting products and projects we work on. It's also due to the fun things our employees do in their free time. And all those things make for great stories on Monday morning.
