Life Before FindLaw

FindLaw's Silicon Valley office pulls in a unique mix of writers, lawyers, engineers, advertisers, business strategists, and other talented professionals. We come from all over the world, representing numerous perspectives, but always strive toward the good of the whole.

It's no secret that Silicon Valley's success is largely derived from the profound diversity of experiences reflected in its people. FindLaw's office in Sunnyvale, just a stone's throw away from Apple and Google, is no exception.

So what types of experiences shape our collective culture here in Sunnyvale? We asked a few colleagues to tell us what they did before coming to FindLaw.

We try to answer all of your legal questions here at FindLaw, and sometimes the most accurate answer is: "It depends." Legal outcomes can depend on a variety of issues -- the facts of the case, the quality of the evidence, the timing of the lawsuit or charges, etc., -- and predicting how a case will turn out is difficult, if not impossible.

One of the most influential factors in any case will be the law itself, which can vary from state to state. This is why FindLaw has a comprehensive State Laws section, providing state-specific statutes for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Bay Area attracts the best and the brightest from all over the world, which makes for a most fascinating and dynamic region. But if you look around, you'll also find plenty of locals who have hitched their wagons to the ever-changing technology behemoth we call Silicon Valley. One of these locals is FindLaw's own Patrick Kennedy, Technology Manager for the Audience Team in Sunnyvale. Kennedy, who started at FindLaw in April, comes to us from one of the Valley's original tech innovators, Hewlett-Packard.

He has always worked in information technology, but really enjoys the business side of things. In his new position at FindLaw, he'll get to straddle those two worlds as he manages product strategies from a technology perspective.

"What brought me to FindLaw was the opportunity to get back to management," Kennedy explained. "I enjoy helping develop people's skills. It's a nice reward to see people [under your management] do well."
