They say that your name reveals a lot about you. If you have the same name as trouble-making TV cartoon character, should it be any surprise if you find life imitating art one day?
Let's ask Bart Simpson. Or rather, Barton Simpson of Eccleshall, England. He appeared before Mr. Burns in a courtroom recently, reports The Huffington Post.
No, really, he did. In real life.
Barton Simpson, 56, was caught in possession of a firearm at the UK's Birmingham Airport last year. This week, he appeared before "Mr. Recorder Burns" at the Warwick Crown Court. (Alas, the judge's first name was not reported, but chances are it wasn't "C. Montgomery.")
Talk about an odd coincidence. What's even stranger is that the character Bart Simpson from the long-running TV series is frequently seen with a tiny weapon -- although it's a sling and not a firearm.
For those who don't know "The Simpsons," the character of Bart Simpson has locked horns with a character named Charles Montgomery Burns a few times. In the show, Bart is a troubled 10-year-old boy while Mr. Burns is the local villain and owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.
There have been similar stories of life imitating art. Here in the United States, a man named Walter White was wanted in Alabama for violating his probation, reports The Washington Post.
His underlying crime? Manufacturing and trafficking methamphetamine.
If you don't get the reference, perhaps some context is necessary: In the AMC show "Breaking Bad," the character Walter White is a high-school chemistry teacher who explores a new "career" when he discovers how to cook meth. He eventually becomes one of the DEA's most wanted men.
In fact, if you look at the photos, the real-life Walter White actually looks a bit like the TV character! The same can't be said for the real-life Bart Simpson.
