Woman Attacks Barricaded Boyfriend With Knife Over No Valentine Gift

A very unhappy Valentine's Day led to a violent attack, a boyfriend barricaded in a bedroom, and the arrest of his knife-wielding girlfriend, a sheriff's report asserts.

The alleged motive: Anger over the boyfriend's failure to buy a Valentine's Day present, Cincinnati's WKRC-TV reports.

Kierra Reed, 22, of Colerain Twp., Ohio, faces a charge of aggravated menacing in connection with a Valentine's Day spat that allegedly turned into a life-threatening, and knife-threatening, situation.

Kierra Reed argued with her boyfriend about her lack of a Valentine's Day present about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, according to a sheriff's report obtained by the website The Smoking Gun. The argument became physical when Reed allegedly scratched and punched her boyfriend.

Fearing for his safety, the boyfriend sought shelter in a bedroom and locked the door, the report states.

Reed, undeterred, got a knife from the kitchen and started stabbing the door "in an attempt to get to the victim," according to the sheriff's report. Reed "threatened to kill him and cut him."

Reed's misdemeanor charge of menacing refers to an act that is intended to instill fear in another person. Brandishing a weapon as Reed allegedly did is one way to face a menacing charge. Some states also punish stalking as a form of menacing.

If the sheriff's report is correct, it seems Reed could also have been charged with assault, for creating an apprehension of imminent bodily harm in her boyfriend, and possibly battery for the physical acts of scratching and punching him.

Kierra Reed posted $2,500 bail Wednesday morning and is free pending a court date. If convicted for her alleged Valentine's Day knife attack, she faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
