November 2010 Archives

FindLaw.com, the web’s most visited legal information website, is now broadcasting its brand of legal information to the airwaves of Boston. In November, FindLaw’s “When Life Gets Legal” commercial began airing in the Boston metro area.

FindLaw brings to the Boston market its clever, relatable commercial depicting one day for a man whose life gets, very, very legal. Between the neighbor dispute, the fender-bender and the dog bites mailman episode, the commercial informs viewers where they can go when they want legal information, advice or a lawyer — right now. Most of us won’t face all of these problems all at once, but at least one might look pretty familiar to our viewers.

How do you make yourself and your firm truly stand out from an increasingly crowded online field? On November 18, FindLaw will present a free one-hour webcast that can help attorneys do just that.

In the webcast Beyond The Basics - Standing Out From the Crowd, co-hosts attorney Paul Jacobs and FindLaw Senior Client Development Consultant Sally Janavicius will discuss what makes the difference when firms seek more visibility online, well-qualified clients and a real return on investment from their web presence.

Co-host Paul Jacobs is a partner in the Irvine, California firm of Jacobs & Dodds. Jacobs has 30 years of experience practicing business and commercial law, construction law, litigation and appeals. In addition to litigation expertise, Jacobs has an extensive transactional background negotiating with companies such as Microsoft and Disney. FindLaw.com is the go to place for legal information for the everyday consumer, but did you know that FindLaw provides useful information for major news outlets? While legal information that is simple, clear and concise is the reason consumers turn to FindLaw, we also provide useful information for major news organizations. Useful information such as FindLaw surveys are just one way that news outlets can accurately report on legal trends, how consumers feel about those trends and how consumers understand them.

Wall Street Journal radio recently cited a FindLaw survey about how consumers in the housing market have been affected by the economy. The FindLaw survey used by the Wall Street Journal radio station indicated that most Americans feel that the current state of the economy has made them less likely to purchase a home. The Wall Street Journal likely cited this survey because it provides valuable insight into the minds of its readers and listeners.

Google recently introduced to the marketplace "Place Search," which is a new way Google will be organizing search results around local businesses. With Place Search, Google has the capability to better predict when a searcher is looking for local information and as a result, will then automatically populate the first page of search results with relevant local businesses.

This is undoubtedly a big search change for the industry. For law firms, we anticipate this means establishing a local search presence is no longer an optional component of the firm's online marketing strategy - now, it is a critical component for optimal visibility.

FindLaw is always looking for ways to give back to the community. One such way is by helping ensure that the next generation is well on its way to success by providing career preparation guidance to local students.

On October 22, FindLaw employees on the Eagan campus met with students from the Page Education Foundation in order to provide them with career guidance and mentoring.

The Page Education Foundation was launched by former Minnesota Viking and MN Supreme Court Judge Alan Page in 1988 as a way to provide support to students of color seeking a higher education in Minnesota.
