When did you join the FindLaw team / how did you get here?

I joined FindLaw in July of 2006. Earlier that spring, I attended a job fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center that was aimed at college students and recent graduates; FindLaw had a booth at this fair. Having never heard of Thomson Reuters, which was Thomson West at the time, I stopped by the booth to learn more about the company and to see if they had any design internships or job opportunities. A few weeks later I was asked to come to Eagan for an informational meeting which turned in to an interview. Later that week, I was offered a job. I was one of the first two associate designers that our company had, and there have been many more since.

FindLaw Attends LegalTech 2011

FindLaw took part in LegalTech 2011 in New York last week.

FindLaw highlighted a key product, FirmSite Premium, with the tech-savvy legal crowd at the Hilton New York. Karl Florida, president of FindLaw, discussed the product and the use of new technologies in legal practice management.

"We're excited to be at LegalTech to demonstrate how FindLaw helps power the comprehensive suite of Thomson Reuters Business of Law solutions that help law firms manage their practices," Florida said from the conference.

The FindLaw Technology Team

Almost every company has one, but few people understand exactly what they do -- the technology team. While it is true that all functional areas of FindLaw are crucial to our business, it would be nearly impossible for FindLaw to accomplish our goals and deliver solutions to our customers without our own technology team.

As an important part of the FindLaw team, the technology team is responsible for creating and maintaining both FindLaw's internal and customer facing systems, including customers' performance reports, and other essential parts of the FindLaw suite of products.

  • Alternative Sentences: FindLaw's Learn About the Law explores the punishments that can be handed down for criminal convictions other than prison sentences. Some of the alternative sentencing that is available to convicted criminals can include suspended sentences, probation, an order to perform community service or to compensate a victim by making restitution.

For better or worse, "divorce" was 2010's most searched legal term on FindLaw.com, the most popular consumer legal website.

Since about half of all American marriages end in divorce, it should come as no surprise that "divorce," and its dependents "child support" and "child custody," got the nod for most searched legal terms during the past 12 months.
