Welcome to another post from our "Meet the FindLaw Team" series. "Meet the FindLaw Team" provides insight into the day-to-day lives of our colleagues. Today we feature FindLaw Architect, Gary Sole. Get to know Gary by reading about his experiences at FindLaw below.
What is your current title?
When did you join the FindLaw team/how did you get here?
I joined FindLaw in September 2006 from West where I was a Lead Software Engineer in the Content Tech Shared Services group working on KeyCite migration projects. Interestingly, a Halloween costume competition was held the same day I started, which made for an entertaining first day at work.
What interests you most about lawyer marketing or your functional area?
From the evolving nature of Internet marketing to expanding internationally and integrating systems across multiple locations, I am faced with a number of interesting challenges that keep my days unique. Working within a small, fast-paced engineering environment, we are able incorporate new technologies to our engineering efforts far more efficiently. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the culture here at FindLaw.
What activities does your work day typically involve?
A big part of my work day includes planning and determining business needs for new product launches and enhancements. As an architect, I am involved at the beginning stages to determine the most efficient approach to structure a product across systems and meet business objectives. I also identify areas where we can leverage new or existing functionality to create efficiencies across systems. Other activities include meeting with colleagues to discuss projects, estimates, and creating technical documents. My favorite part of work is brainstorming and implementing innovative solutions to meet business objectives.
What are your interests outside of FindLaw?
When not at work, I really enjoy watching and playing sports, as well as coaching my kids in soccer and basketball. During the summer I enjoy golf and a good game of tennis, while during winter really enjoy skiing. I am originally from South Africa and like to watch cricket and rugby when possible. Since coming to the U.S. 13 years ago, I have become a Vikings fan and have watched almost every game. Other than sports, I like a good action movie, my PS3, or a fantasy novel.
