  • Text Messages Inadmissible Hearsay, Penn. Appeals Court Rules: FindLaw's Decided notes that while text message evidence can be valuable, a Pennsylvania appellate court has ruled them to be inadmissible hearsay. A defendant was convicted of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. At trial, prosecutors introduced drug-related text messages sent from her phone. The goal was to show that she intended to sell the drugs. That conviction was overturned after the court concluded the text messages had been improperly admitted.

FindLaw attends legal gatherings nationwide. Be it conventions, trade shows, seminars, conferences or technology shows - FindLaw has a presence. It’s a great way for us to interact with legal professionals and stay connected with our current and potential customers.

The summer has been a productive one, filled with legal conferences from coast to coast. We will keep up the momentum October 13-16 by attending the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) 2011 Mountain Magic.

Attending legal conventions and seminars, like Mountain Magic, is one reason that FindLaw is able to provide such effective marketing strategies to its clients. Meeting and interacting with practicing attorneys from across the nation keeps FindLaw up to date with the latest trends in legal representation and issues for law firms.

Legal News is News: Controversial Topics

The death penalty, gay rights and many other controversial legal topics have been making headlines across social media lately. Because of the contentious nature of these issues, people are more likely to have and want to share an opinion.

As a lawyer, you likely have a strong opinion on these matters as well but as you know, there are two sides to every argument. Rather than expressing your opinion outright, try using your various social media outlets to facilitate a debate and present both sides of the story in order to attract and engage the widest audience of potential clients possible. Here's a look at how to approach controversial legal topics using social media platforms.

Online marketing represents an opportunity to position yourself as an industry leader and reach potential clients in unique ways. From more traditional marketing sources to social media, the world of online marketing can be dizzying. One way to simplify this process is to start by learning the best practices for building your law firm online by attending FindLaw's free one hour webcast on the very topic.

Hosted by Santa Ana, California attorney Keith More from the law firm of Berman, More & Gonzalez and FindLaw Regional Manager Andy Rogers. Attendees will learn how to build a strong brand that stands out, today's most effective marketing strategies, and the keys to effectively optimizing a website for search engines.

FindLaw.com visitors know that this is the site for insightful, useful legal information. Indeed, many well-known, national news organizations also look to FindLaw news releases to provide their own readers with authoritative legal information.

FindLaw prepares surveys and new releases to bring legal news to an even wider audience. Take our latest release, Two-Thirds of Parents Worried About the Internet and Children's Safety.

Everyone is on the web now, especially children. And for a majority of American parents, this is a very real fear.

Between cyberbullying and children on Facebook, about 67% of parents are worried about their children's safety on the Internet, according to our latest survey.

That said, not all parents are concerned.
