Can't Make the ABA Annual Meeting? FindLaw's Got Coverage

Networking and Eric Holder, or billable hours and court hearings? Hilary Clinton and Justice Anthony Kennedy, or filing a temporary restraining order to protect your client from his violent spouse? Or maybe you just can't afford the airfare, hotel, and the cost of admission.

You've got your priorities set correctly, but that doesn't mean you'll have to miss out on the American Bar Association's Annual Meeting completely. Even if you can't attend in person, you can still take part in the festivities remotely, via FindLaw.com, as we'll be covering the major events via blogs and social media.

Live Coverage of Eric Holder

The Attorney General has, in recent speeches, questioned Stand Your Ground laws and discussed access to justice for the impoverished. In a previous speech at the ABA Annual Meeting, he urged our nation to get "smart" in fighting crime, and discussed alternatives to incarceration.

What will he talk about this time? We're not completely sure, but signs (and NPR) point to sentencing reform for nonviolent offenders and the Obama administration's drug policies. Other reforms that may be in the pipeline, and the speech, include giving judges discretion to sentence nonviolent offenders to less than the mandatory minimum.

We'll be live-blogging the speech here, on our Strategist Blog, and live-tweeting the speech through our FindLaw for Legal Professionals Twitter account. We'll also have a full recap available shortly after the speech has concluded.

Recaps of Other Notable Events

The ABA Annual Meeting's schedule is packed full of interesting speakers, including Hilary Clinton, Justice Anthony Kennedy, and a panel of lawyers-turned-authors, such as former O.J. Simpson prosecutor, Marcia Clark.

We can't promise recaps of all the fun (many events have limited seating), but for the events that we do cover, keep an eye on our Twitter for posts tagged with the hashtag #ABAannual.
