Gift Giving 101: Holiday Gift Guide for Coworkers

If you're running your own law firm then you already have enough to stress about without having to figure out what to get your coworkers for the holidays. What about your paralegal? What about the receptionist? What about your partner?

We've taken the mystery out of gift giving and made it as simple as possible for you -- choose from the options below -- and you're done.

1. The Edibles

Many use the holidays as an excuse to eat everything they deprive themselves of the whole year (ahem, at least some of us do). We haven't met anyone that doesn't like a gift that is tasty, or that will get one drunk happy. Great options in the edibles department include chocolate, fruit baskets, wine, or booze -- just no fruitcake, no one likes it. If you want to riff on fruit cake, try panettone, fruit cake's Italian (tastier) cousin (hint: get one with chocolate).

Perfect for: your receptionist.

2. The Zen Gifts

Everyone that works at a law firm could benefit from some de-stressing. If you want your employees to get some relaxation, try gift certificates for a massage or spa treatment, or a full day at the spa. Or, for the guys, how about a day out on the golf course. Your staff will love you for this.

Perfect for your admin or paralegal.

3. Style Matters

If your employees are style conscious, then a gift that lets them flaunt their style a bit will be much appreciated. Items like a silk scarf, or fancy pants pen make great gifts.

Perfect for: your associates.

4. The Events

If your coworkers are sports fans, music lovers, or ballet aficionados, then get them tickets to a sporting event, concert or the ballet. You can't go wrong with great tickets.

Perfect for: your partners.

5. Personal Touch

Personal gifts always make the best gifts. If you know the person collects something in particular, for example, then buy them something for their collection. Try to keep each person in mind for personal gifts, but only go this route if you have some extra time to put some thought into it.

Perfect for: senior associates, partners, anyone who has been with the firm a long time.

Giving gifts should be a rewarding experience -- there's nothing better than seeing the smiles on people's faces as they receive the gifts you've given them. If you don't have the time to think of personal gifts for everyone, don't feel bad about option one above -- it's easy and always a pleaser.
