Songs Aimed at Cam Newton Get Alabama Employee Fired

Being clever has its price. An employee at The University of Alabama found that out the hard way after a dig at Auburn quarterback Cam Newton on Saturday. The Auburn-Alabama rivalry sparked some creativity on the part of the Alabama employee, who made a dig at the Cam Newton scandal. The creativity went a bit too far and got her fired.
The employee, who was not named, was fired after playing songs like "Take the Money and Run" and "Son of a Preacher Man" while Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers warmed up for their football game against Alabama. The songs were purportedly meant to poke fun at the accusations currently swirling around Cam Newton. The Auburn quarterback has been the subject of rumors and an investigation alleging that his father solicited $180,000 from Mississippi State for Newton's services. The Cam Newton scandal taken on a life of its own this season, as the quarterback keeps on playing with Auburn's blessing.
Auburn won the game 28-27 after trailing 24-0. The staffer was fired because all music and videos that are played in the stadium must be approved by a senior administrator. However, several songs were not cleared.
"Our processes require that all music and videos played in the stadium prior to and during every game be carefully scripted and approved by a senior administrator in the Athletics Department," UA Public Relations Director Debbie Lane said in a statement, USA Today reports. "The former staff member deviated from the script that had been approved for the game with Auburn, and the University took steps to immediately terminate his contract."
Cleverness aside, the music tactic failed to impact Cam Newton, who led the Tigers to a brilliant comeback victory. Auburn is on the brink of playing in the BCS national championship game.
