Remember those first days in law school when terms like "adverse possession," "charitable trust," and "rules against perpetuities" were so foreign?
Well that's the problem with the Nolo Law Dictionary app. The program is great for novices, especially those that aren't too familiar with certain legal terms. But you're a lawyer now -- so you're not much of a legal newbie.
So the real question is -- is the app useful for attorneys? It's a definite "maybe."
Interface-wise, it's easy to use.
Nolo's Plan-English Law Dictionary certainly is easy to navigate. You can search the dictionary for the appropriate phrase. You can even browse by alphabet or subject area.
This blogger is not entirely sure why you would want to peruse an entire section of terms related to "Business, LLCs & Corporations." But the option is there for you.
When you find your chosen word, its definition is also displayed on a clean page:
Is it useful? Maybe.
The Plain-English Law Dictionary app is probably best used by non-lawyers. But there are some situations where attorneys could find it useful.
Like if you're venturing into an area of law that you are unfamiliar with. Or, if you simply have a brain freeze and are unable to recall what something means. It may also prove useful if you want a concise, consumer-friendly explanation of terms to explain to clients.
The rest of Nolo's dictionary app probably won't be too useful for attorneys. The app includes a lawyer directory and information about Nolo's website. Is it worth a download? It is free. But you may find yourself never really opening the app -- or using it to its full potential.
