The Bluebook App: A Uniform System of Citation on Your Cell

Ever needed to know the proper rules of citation while on the go? Well, with the new The Bluebook app, lawyers and law students everywhere can access the 500+ pages of The Legal Bluebook in the palm of their hands.

Like it or not, technology is becoming more and more intertwined with the practice of law. And you can probably consider the technological revolution complete when even the authority on how to properly make legal citations goes mobile.

Unfortunately, with such easy access to the rules of citations, lawyers everywhere will no longer have an excuse for a mis-cite.

Generally, The Bluebook is the favored style guide for lawyers, judges, paralegals, law students and everyone else in the legal profession, writes Legal Productivity. With the new The Bluebook app, all of these individuals can access the rules on their iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch via the Rulebook App.

The Rulebook App can help a lawyer on the go with the following functionalities:

  • Search your entire library by key words or phrases.
  • Touch any word to highlight, annotate and/or bookmark any amount of text.
  • Navigate from rule to rule easily by swiping the screen or jumping to the rule using the active table of contents feature.
  • Keep multiple rules and authorities open at once and toggle easily back and forth between authorities with rulebook's multitask function.
  • Double tap anywhere in the rule to immediately identify what rule and subsection you are viewing.
  • Jump directly to cited sources through active hyperlinks.
  • Enjoy having all your content automatically kept up to date without losing any of your highlights or annotations through rulebook's proprietary update tool.

The Bluebook app is available for $39.99. This is a small premium over the $34 for the physical copy. But given the added convenience of the mobile version, this may be a time when spending a little more may be well worth it.
