Beware the Easter DUI

Spring is finally here, and Easter weekend is upon us.

Maybe you're planning on some March Madness margaritas. An IPA during the Easter egg hunt. Or a few glasses of red with Sunday dinner. (Some of you may even get your 4/20 celebrations started early...) If you're cracking open a cold one this weekend, be aware that cops are cracking down on DUIs, booze or blunt induced.

So here are a few tips to help avoid a bummer of a Bunny Day:

Everything in Moderation

We know you're stoked that you can finally go outside without needing to shovel your way out. But don't let that excitement turn into over-consumption. Now that they've finally appeared, take time to smell the flowers, as they say. Maybe trade that cocktail for some iced tea. (Our favorite Easter drink was to fill a hollow chocolate bunny with milk, but to each his own.)

Scaling back your Easter celebration can help you make good decisions, and keep you off law enforcement's radar. But you should be aware that even low blood alcohol concentrations can lead to a DUI conviction.

Everyone in the Back Seat

If you're not lucky enough to host Easter festivities (meaning you can avoid the prospect of driving altogether), that doesn't mean you have to drive. You can take advantage of one of the many budding ride share services to get you home safe and sound. Public transit, taxis, and Uber are all great options over driving drunk, or you can even throw your sober friend a couple bucks to ferry you around this weekend.

And if you can't be stopped from getting behind the wheel after a few libations, you might want to brush up on your civil rights should you get stopped by the cops (even if you're celebrating with a few tokes or on a boat).
