Taking a shot at Tequila versus taking a shot of tequila can bring you a lawsuit. The infamous star of the reality show A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila has filed a civil lawsuit claiming domestic assault against her former lover, NFL player Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers.

According to The New York Daily News, the lawsuit was filed in San Diego Superior Court and is for assault, battery, false imprisonment, and emotional distress. It was brought by Tila Tequila after the San Diego County D.A. abstained from pressing criminal charges against Mr. Merriman. Prosecutors declined to charge the NFL player because they say that they did not have enough evidence to prove that a crime was committed.

TMZ.com shows pictures of a very bruised Tila Tequila. She claims that she received the bruises at the hands of Mr. Merriman when she attempted to leave his house last September. She alleges that the NFL player "grabbed her, shook her like a rag doll, threw her down and choked her."

Tila Tequila claims that the altercation was over her concern over Mr. Merriman's drug use and temper. Tequila also alleges that the NFL player slept with a minor and allowed and aided an associate to make ecstasy in his home.

Tila Tequila said that Mr. Merriman tried choking her when she attempted to leave his home. She called Sheriff's deputies and they arrested Mr. Merriman after she signed a citizen's complaint against him. According to The San Diego Tribune, the Sheriff's deputies claim that they saw no signs of injury or struggle. Mr. Merriman was jailed for a couple of hours that night.

In the meantime, Mr. Merriman is claiming that he was not dating the reality star and never has. USA Today reports  that Mr. Merriman maintains that he barely knows Tila Tequila. He claims that he was merely trying to prevent the intoxicated starlet from driving while drunk and that he committed no domestic assault. He maintains he was simply attempting to get Tila Tequila home safely.
