Saul Hudson, better known as heavy metal rock star Slash, has filed for divorce from his wife of almost nine years, Perla Ferrar. The former Guns N' Roses guitarist has two young children with Ferrar, London and Cash.

According to People, 45 year-old Slash filed the necessary paperwork in Los Angeles earlier this week, citing the ever-popular and equally ambiguous "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the celebrity divorce. The rock star and his wife wed in October 2001. In a past interview with People, Slash credited Ferrar and their children with helping him get rid of, "all the hardcore stuff he used to live on."

"Irreconcilable differences" is a stock explanation used for no-fault divorces in many states. California, the state where Slash and Ferrar will be divorcing, has allowed no-fault divorces since 1969. Although the actual divorce may not point any fingers, when young children and money are involved, the differences between the spouses always seem to get more irreconcilable.

Likely points of contention in this divorce? Alimony and child custody. The former couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement, and in the divorce papers Slash is seeking joint physical and legal custody of the two children. Put simply, with more assets, there are more legal liabilities, which is why high-stake divorces take longer. However, more than money, child custody issues are one of the most contentious aspects of a divorce. Determining how much time children will spend with each parent can turn ugly when parents stop getting along. Whether Slash will gain joint custody of the kids can be decided on by mutual agreement with Perla Ferrar, or by judicial decision, if a judge determines that such an arrangement is in the best interests of the children.
