Basketball Wives Intel Led Kobe's Wife to File for Divorce?

Vanessa Bryant has filed for divorce from her NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. Kobe's wife cited "irreconcilable differences" as the main reason for the split.

The bad news for Kobe? There wasn't a prenup, sources told the Los Angeles Times. Vanessa Bryant may be getting a large chunk of Kobe's assets.

Could she still be getting the raw end of the deal, though? It's rumored that Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce after she became fed up with Kobe's philandering ways.

Information about some of Kobe's affairs came from fellow basketball wives, according to the Examiner. Basketball stars love to dish to their wives about their teammates' cheating ways. In turn, their wives share information amongst themselves so that other wives know about their husbands' infidelity.

Both Vanessa Bryant and Kobe requested joint custody of their two daughters. They also released a statement that they already resolved issues related to their divorce privately, and that a final judgment should be entered in the next year, reports the Los Angeles Times. This could mean that the duo have already hammered out a property division deal in private.

If they did, it's unclear what settlement terms they agreed to. But, Vanessa Bryant probably holds a strong bargaining position. As California is a community property state, she's entitled to half of all of the wages earned by Kobe during their marriage. She's also likely entitled to half of the property they have purchased.

Not only that, but Kobe may want to avoid bad publicity. It's possible that he could give more assets to Vanessa Bryant in exchange for her to keep quiet about the details of their marriage.

Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce in early December. Kobe's wife stood by his side for ten years, including when the basketball star was on trial over the rape of a 19-year-old in 2002.
