Wiz Khalifa Busted for Pot Possession in Tenn.
Rapper Wiz Khalifa has been busted for pot possession in Nashville, Tenn.
Khalifa (real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz) was staying with another man, Lonnie Howard, 27, at a Holiday Inn. The front desk had received complaints of marijuana odor coming from Khalifa's room. Staff told police they informed the "Black and Yellow" artist of the issue.
Officers then knocked on Khalifa's door and found a scene straight out of "Benny Hill."
No, Khalifa wasn't being chased through endless doorways. Instead, when Howard opened the door, cops saw the rapper toss a marijuana joint out the window. They later recovered the blunt.
Police then asked if there was any more weed in room. Howard said there wasn't, but then recanted and said he had some in his pocket. Reports indicate he was carrying at least 2.7 grams.
Khalifa was cited for misdemeanor drug possession. Howard was arrested.
The Fourth Amendment prohibits unlawful searches and seizures. However, police can take evidence and arrest someone for crimes done in "plain view."
Most people wouldn't open the door for a stranger, let alone do it without at least checking who's outside first. Khalifa and company never seemed to learn that lesson. At the very least he could've tried to hide his blunt before the door opened.
Perhaps he was just trying buff up his street cred. Though Howard didn't help by admitting he had drugs in his pocket.
A common defense to drug possession is claiming ignorance. That's because the crime generally requires a person actually know they're carrying.
Fortunately for Wiz Khalifa, most pot possession misdemeanors don't usually end in jail time. His reps haven't commented on the incident.
