Katie Holmes Gets Nothing for Herself from Tom Cruise Divorce

Katie Holmes will only be getting child support payments out of her divorce from Tom Cruise.

The Tom Cruise divorce settlement was revealed and Holmes will be getting no spousal support and not even a little bit of Cruise's estimated $250 million fortune for herself, reports the Examiner.

Instead, Holmes will receive child support payments of $33,333.33 a month to care for the couple's six-year-old daughter Suri.

The Tom Cruise divorce settlement should not be surprising as the couple signed a prenuptial agreement that basically said that Holmes could not reach Cruise's fortune should they divorce, reports the Examiner.

Typically, if a couple divorces without a prenuptial agreement, the couple leaves it to a court to determine how much each individual will receive. A court will oftentimes look to factors like how long the couple was married, their standard of living, and a spouse's contributions to the success of the other in making the award.

However, when the couple agrees to a predetermined split -- even if that agreement results in one spouse receiving nothing -- the court will usually defer to the agreement. That was reportedly the case with the Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise divorce settlement.

Still, while it may seem that Tom Cruise got everything he wanted in the divorce settlement, the reality is that Katie Holmes may be pretty happy too. It's reported that she just wanted to quickly end her marriage to Cruise and have custody of her child. Showing that the winner of a divorce settlement is not always about who receives the most money.
