'The Situation' Arrested After Brawl at His Own Tanning Salon

By Brett Snider, Esq. | Last updated on

"Jersey Shore" star "The Situation" was arrested at a New Jersey tanning salon after cops responded to reports of a fist fight inside.

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, 31, got hauled in by the cops Tuesday following a 911 call about a brawl inside the Boca Tanning Salon in Middletown, New Jersey. TMZ reports that only Sorrentino was arrested and booked for the fight.

So why did Sorrentino get all aggro at the salon?

Gym, Tan, Assault?

According to TMZ, Sorrentino and his family own the Boca Tanning Salon, and there's been a little bit of friction between the owners and the employees over late paychecks -- perhaps setting the stage for Tuesday's fist fight that led to The Situation's arrest. Sorrentino was later released after posting $500 bail for simple assault.

When you get into a brawl or beat someone up, you're liable to be charged with assault, regardless of your celebrity. The Situation is no different, and in New Jersey, simple assault is treated as at least a "disorderly persons offense." Disorderly persons offenses are much like misdemeanors in other states: They can be punished by up to six months in jail, but no prison time.

The Situation could be facing even less of a charge since the assault likely stemmed from a mutually consented-to fight. If so, simple assault may only be considered a petty disorderly persons offense, eligible for a maximum of only 30 days in jail. It's unclear when Sorrentino's next court date will be; charges may be dropped before then.

Not the First Assault for 'Jersey Shore' Crew

This is not The Situation's first fist fight/assault, and our bet's on it not being the last either. Sorrentino and former "Jersey Shore" castmate Ronnie Ortiz-Magro allegedly assaulted each other while in Italy in 2011, giving the country a taste of true American star power. Just a few months prior, Ronnie spent part of his Valentine's Day in court, pleading not guilty to an assault charge stemming from a fight that occurred during Season 1.

If The Situation has learned anything since his time on "Jersey Shore," it should be to save these dramatic moments for the confessional. That way you might get your own spinoff.
