After getting married to "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi over the weekend, Jionni LaValle was in court Monday facing a DUI charge.
LaValle was arrested August 7 and charged with driving under the influence, reports E! Online. In court on Monday, LaValle pleaded guilty to DUI in exchange for the dismissal of reckless driving and unsafe lane change charges he was also facing.
What sort of criminal penalties is the newly minted Mr. Snooki now facing?
New Jersey DUI Laws
Under New Jersey's DUI laws, there are different penalties for different levels of intoxication. For a first-time alcohol DUI offense with a blood alcohol concentration of over 0.08 percent but less than 0.10 percent, a conviction can result in the loss of one's driver's license, fines, and up to 30 days in jail.
In LaValle's case, his driver's license was suspended for 90 days. He was also ordered to attend 12 hours of drug and alcohol classes, and to pay a fine of $614.
Snooki's Past Legal Trouble
LaValle's criminal record shouldn't cause too many troubles in his new marriage. His new wife Snooki has had several run-ins with the law herself over the last few years. You may recall that in 2010, Snooki was facing charges of disorderly conduct, creating a nuisance, and being "criminally annoying" after drunkenly disturbing other patrons at bar during filming for "Jersey Shore."
Most of the charges against Snooki in that case were eventually dropped, and she was sentenced to community service and hit with a modest fine. The next year, however, Snooki injured two Italian police officers after crashing her car into the police officers' vehicle during the filming of "Jersey Shore" in Italy. Snooki was cited for following the car too closely and had her driver's license revoked.
Also in 2011, Snooki was sued by her partners in a business venture gone bad. SRG Ventures filed a countersuit after being sued by Snooki for allegedly failing to find adequate branding opportunities for the reality star. In their $7 million suit, the group alleged Snooki sabotaged the venture by working with other companies and botching merchandise deals.
