Season 11 (ELEVEN!!) of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' aired this week, and for the past eight years TV's new First Family has been keeping its legal department busy. They've sued for defamation, been sued for false advertising, and been 'swatted', and that's all without getting to the divorces.
So what kind of legal shenanigans can we expect from Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall, and Kylie, (and Kanye!) this season? Let's take a look:
Family Legal Drama
First, there was the prenup for Kim's "marriage" then-NBAer Kris Humphries. Then the divorce 72 days later. Then the settlement hearing failed. Then the divorce was headed to trial. And finally Kris (Kim's former husband not her mom) got nothing. That's some real good divorce lawyering right there.
Maybe even better divorce lawyering? Stopping a divorce! Khloe and Lamar Odom were separated and headed for divorce when Odom ended up in a coma. Then, because the divorce had not been finalized, Khloe was making medical decisions for Odom. The crises must've brought the two closer together, since they decided to call off the divorce when he awoke.
And those are just the divorces. Kourtney split with longtime boyfriend Scott Disick this year. While they were never married, the couple had three children together, so child custody issues may take some legal wrangling to sort out.
'Intellectual' Property Legal Drama
Way, way back in 2011, Kim sued Old Navy over an alleged lookalike model in their ads. She settled her right of publicity claim out of court. Then she went after BoycottKim.com. It should go without saying that the family aggressively protects their trademarks and doesn't shy away from litigation, or threats thereof.
And is that any real surprise? After all, Kris's first husband, and father to Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Rob, was a lawyer. Robert Kardashian gained national fame as O.J. Simpson's friend and defense attorney before he passed away in 2003, four years before "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" first aired.
