Hopefully Vince Vaughn enjoyed his summer, because the easy living may be behind him.
Vaughn was arrested back on June 10, 2018 in Hermosa Beach for misdemeanor driving under the influence (DUI) and disobeying an officer. His male passenger was also arrested for public intoxication. It is unclear to what level Vaughn was disobedient -- perhaps he was trying to resist taking the drunk test, or maybe he was just having fun with the officers.
Turns out his good looks and personality weren't enough to get him off the hook. Though it's been three months, his fun in the sun is over. The star was formally charged earlier this week by the Los Angeles District Attorney. If convicted, Vaughn could face up to a year in jail. Though this is his first DUI, he was arrested for a misdemeanor back in 2001 for a bar room brawl in North Carolina.Three Months? Is That Weird?
You may be wondering why the delay? Turns out three months is not that long of a lapse between arrest and formal charging. Generally, the DA's office has up to a year to file misdemeanor charges before someone could complain. And if the DUI were a felony, the statute of limitations is three years. So three months isn't that long.
What's Next for Vaughn?
Legally speaking, Vaughn will be arraigned September 10, at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Torrance Branch. Vaughn doesn't have to appear. He's got people for that. There will be some back and forth on this one between the lawyers, and if we're still interested, we should know the outcome of it all within the next six months or so. Until then, you can check him out in his new movie, Dragged Across Concrete, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this weekend. Perhaps he spent some time in Venice with costar Mel Gibson, who knows a thing or two about DUI's.
If you or someone you know has been arrested for driving under the influence, call a DUI attorney, who can help you maneuver the legal system, and get you the best representation possible.
