While most real attorneys aren't bad people, the same can't be said about those in movies and television. But which fictional lawyers are the most evil?
It's a question that's bound to elicit endless debates. Narrowing the list down to the top three may very well seem impossible to legal fiction buffs. But we here at FindLaw have done the impossible.
So who gets the dubious number one spot? Click onward to find out.
3) Tom Hagen, "The Godfather" & "The Godfather Part II"
It's hard to tell when a skilled attorney becomes an evil one. Tom Hagen exemplifies this conundrum.
Although he wasn't Sicilian, Hagen proved himself to be invaluable to the Corleone family. He arranged countless hits for his bosses and advised them successfully through several mob wars. He also had a string of corrupt judges and government officials in his pocket. He even foresaw drugs as the future of organized crime. And let's not forget the horse head.
2) John Milton, "The Devil's Advocate"
When you're Satan himself, pretty much any job you do will be smattered with evil. John Milton in the "The Devil's Advocate" is no exception.
This villainous lawyer doesn't mess around when it comes to getting what he wants. He dispatched hell-spawned muggers to kill a meddling managing partner. He raped his son's wife and even tried to trick him into "getting busy" with his half-sister in order to bring about the Antichrist.
1) Maurice Levy, "The Wire"
While it's hard to top the devil, leave it to "The Wire" to prove the impossible time and time again.
Maurice Levy manages to represent everything society hates about lawyers and people in general. He had no qualms representing the likes of Marlo Stanfield, the Barksdale organization, and every other drug kingpin eager to prey on addicts. He also holds the distinction of being one of the few characters to make it through the entire series unscathed.
Honorable Mention: Billy Flynn, "Chicago"
While Billy Flynn doesn't seem to care that most of his clients are guilty, his musically-tune litigation skills keep him from being listed as one of the most evil fictional lawyers.
