FindLaw Finds Time to Give Thanks This Holiday

By Andrew Chow, Esq. on November 20, 2012 12:12 PM

Thanksgiving means more than just reuniting with relatives and sitting down for a massive meal. It's also a time to give thanks.

Like many of you, the FindLaw team has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. And in giving thanks this year, many of our team members have also found time to give back.

"I am thankful for my health, my family, and my 1-year-old niece," said Pierre Zado, a licensed attorney who oversees FindLaw's Answers forum and also volunteers at a legal services clinic every week.

Zado's regular volunteer work is just one example of how FindLaw staff members are using their skills and talents to serve our community.

This year, FindLaw's Silicon Valley office took part in a volunteer project with San Francisco Achievers, a group that focuses on personal and academic development for young African Americans in the city.

The result has been rewarding for everyone involved. SF Achievers got a website makeover, and FindLaw employees were able to work on a meaningful project outside of the office.

FindLaw's SF Achievers partnership is part of our parent company's commitment to volunteer work. As a company-wide policy, Thomson Reuters allows all staff members to take at least one work day per year to volunteer.

That's just one reason many FindLaw staffers say they're thankful they joined the Thomson Reuters family. Here's a sample of what else we're thankful for this Thanksgiving:

  • "I'm definitely thankful for landing a great job here at FindLaw where everyone is so friendly," FindLaw's Lead Quality Assurance Analyst Jonathan Huie said. "I thank God for providing me more than I need, and that I have extra to share with those who are less fortunate."
  • "I am thankful to God for being able to pray in public without the fear of facing jail time and imprisonment like in other countries around the world," said Jomelie de la Fuente, FindLaw's office coordinator.
  • "This might sound clichéd, but it's true: I'm thankful for my awesome wife and two amazing (and healthy) young kids," said Steve Tanner, senior writer for FindLaw's Learn About the Law section. "I'm also thankful for indoor plumbing, access to abundant food sources, health insurance, and all the comforts of living in the U.S. that are so often taken for granted."

In addition, we here at FindLaw are thankful for you, our loyal visitors, for making us the No. 1 consumer legal website. You helped us set some new records in terms of monthly visitors this year, and we're hoping to serve you even better in the years to come.
