New year, new you. And while you might've already made resolutions to eat better, exercise more, and watch less TV, if your resolutions don't include some legal planning, you might be missing out.

So, FindLaw put together five legal resolutions to add to your list, to get your 2019 started off right.

1. Get a Will (Or Update an Existed One)

Chances are, some big things happened last year. Marriages, mortgages, and even new jobs can have an impact on your estate. So if you haven't created a will yet, get started. And if you have, make sure it's up to date.

2. Check Your Insurance Coverage

Insurance affects almost everything we do. We wake up under homeowner's or renter's insurance, drive to work with (hopefully) car insurance, and work a job that likely gives us health insurance. Heck, you probably have an insurance policy for your cell phone. Make sure all your things (and loved ones) are taken care of.

3. Get a Jump-Start on Your Taxes

April 15th might seem like a long way off, but it's never too early to start getting your tax paperwork in order. And remember: the sooner you file, the sooner you get that refund!

4. Learn About Changes in Your State's Laws

Every state is different, and from marijuana to plastic straws, state laws can vary and they can change from year to year. What's new in your state this year?

5. Start Your Business

You've had that business plan in your head for years, and every time a new one rolls around on the calendar, you promise this year is when you'll finally become your own boss. We've got all the (legal) tools you'll need to finally make it happen.
