CA Man Bites Off, Chews Eyebrow During Fight

By Stephanie Rabiner, Esq. on September 16, 2011 6:58 AM

How does one bite off an eyebrow? Is it kind of like biting into a rib, and then pulling the meat away from the bone?

If you've ever pondered such a question, you should chance a conversation with Luis Miguel Aguilar, a 29-year-old Buena Park, California, man who has been arrested for nibbling on his opponent's eyebrow during a fight.

Did I mention that he proceeded to chew it up and spit it out? Or that police describe the flesh as being "about the size of an egg"?

Delicious.

Luis Miguel Aguilar claims he bit the man in self-defense, but police told LA Weekly that he had punched the victim, straddled him, and then bit off the eyebrow.

Once an attacker is subdued, eyebrow biting generally exceeds the bounds of self-defense, which is why Aguilar has been charged with felony mayhem.

Mayhem is a special crime under the California Penal Code, making it illegal to deprive another human of "a member of his body" or to cause disfiguration.

The victim tried to save the chewed flesh, but doctors were unable to reattach it, according to LA Weekly. He will now need reconstructive surgery.

Besides its gruesome nature, what is particularly bothersome about this story is that no one seems to know the why.

Why were Luis Miguel Aguilar and the unnamed victim fighting? Why would anyone bite off an eyebrow during a fight? Why would anyone chew an eyebrow? And for heaven's sake, why would anyone save the chewed up eyebrow that was clearly beyond destroyed?
