Much like the stupid local Pizza Hut TV commercial I mentioned earlier this week, there was always a second commercial that played during afternoon cartoons that I could recite by memory: Rubins, Kase, Rubins, Cambiano, & Bryant, "Because There's Strength in Our Numbers."
So cheesy -- yet so memorable, especially when it plays on television 87 times per day. But they've got nothing on the Internet champ: the legend Lowell "The Hammer" Stanley.
What do these legends, and many other lawyer marketing legends have in common? They all have a gimmick -- a nickname or slogan.
What's in a nickname? It has to be memorable and, preferably, original.
Now, we'll give Lowell "The Hammer" Stanley a pass, because we're not sure if he claimed it first or one of the other two did. Maverick Ray, another lawyer we've discussed lately, calls himself many things, including the "Assassin of Suppression" or "Top Gun Lawyer."
None of those do it for us. In fact, the only reason Lowell is one of our favorites is because of his constant sexual innuendos, intentional or not. "Let's talk about SIZE! Size matters!" And of course, "I'll punish them, pound them!"
Texas Lawyer has a cool story about how a Lubbock lawyer got his nickname: "The Gorilla." His Jiu-Jitsu competitors gave him the name, which his staff picked up on shortly thereafter. He ran with it and, well, watch the commercial -- he really ran with it, adding a jingle, billboards, bus ads, and more.
Is it cheesy? Maybe a bit, but it sounds like it's working for him. Do you need one too?

OK, maybe those aren't the best examples, though I never get sick of watching Cagle talk. But the point remains: Many marketing and advertising efforts contain taglines. So what's yours?
