For attorneys coast to coast, CLE can be a real pain to keep up with. In addition to having to devote several hours of actual time to the courses (meaning you can't bill for that time), often, you have to shell out hundreds of dollars to take the course you want or thousands to attend a special conference.
Fortunately, with the advent of streaming video, attorneys can now attend CLE courses on nearly any subject, from the comfort of their own office, or even their home, and some are even free. And for FindLaw's Customer Appreciation Week, you can sign up (for free) to receive a complementary online CLE course from West Legal EdCenter.
Below, you can check out some of our blogs about finding CLE opportunities.
Finding the right CLE events for your firm, or just yourself, can be difficult. And then, when you do finally find something interesting, the cost might be rather off-putting, especially if you don't have a professional development budget funded by your firm. Fortunately, there are some tried and true tips to finding quality low-cost CLEs.
You can learn about our favorite place for free online CLEs: the Practising Law Institute. Be mindful though, on pli.edu, not every course is free, and not everything qualifies for CLE. But the site is easy to navigate, and everything is labelled clearly, so accidentally taking a CLE that doesn't qualify is not likely to happen unless you're really careless.
Also, we clue you in to a couple other unlikely places to find some free CLEs, like AboveTheLaw and third party service providers/vendors.
While you may end up paying for the CLEs on a CLE vacation, you might be able to squeeze enough value out of it to bring the whole family along.
