Michael Turner Busted for DUI After Falcons Victory

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested for a DUI just hours after his team defeated the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

So much for the notion that our favorite athletes go home and rest up after a game, while studying some more game tape as they get ready for next Sunday.

The good news is that Turner apparently did not suffer too much wear and tear during the game as he was able to party, reports The Associated Press. In the early morning hours following the game, a Georgia police officer clocked Turner driving 97 mph in a 65 mph zone while driving his Audi R8. After getting pulled over, the police officer conducted a DUI investigation and sent Turner to jail for allegedly driving drunk.

The 30-year-old Turner was charged with drunken driving and speeding. But the jail-stay was short-lived as Turner was released after about two hours and after posting $2,179 bond, reports the AP.

By posting the bond, Turner just bought his way out of jail until his trial date. If Turner's record is clean, he'll likely not face any jail time and may be let off with a fine and/or community service. Turner may also be placed on probation, meaning that the next time he gets caught driving under the influence, he could then be sent to jail for much longer than two hours.

Perhaps the more serious penalty Turner faces is the wrath of his coach Mike Smith. The Falcons look like a team that could make a deep run into the playoffs. Turner is a key cog in the offense, and just prior to the DUI, Turner scored a touchdown against the Broncos. So Mike Smith's anger, and the fear of letting his teammates down, may act as a greater deterrence for Turner not driving drunk again than any legal penalties he may face.
