Block on Trump's Asylum Ban Upheld by Supreme Court
The makers of Frigo underwear are suing Derek Jeter for backing out of deals to market their brand. The baseball player vehemently denies the company's claims that they had a contract or that he called the Frigo marketing plan both "too gay" and "too urban."
Reportedly, the company sued Jeter because he backed out of a deal, unhappy to market the underwear alongside rapper 50 Cent, per TMZ. The athlete also allegedly shirked his duty to become director of the company, fearing Frigo's "sporty" marketing strategy would strain his relationship with Nike.
The Company Claims
He said that Jeter's misconduct caused the company at least $30 million in losses. Tacopina is seeking as much in damages, along with punitive damages for the baseball player's alleged fraudulent conduct.
Jeter Denies Everything
Last month Jeter denied the claims that he backed out of the deal to be Frigo brand ambassador because 50 Cent was also going to promote its underwear. In fact, he told reporters that he was the one who facilitated the deal between the rapper and the company.
Jeter denied that he said 50 Cent would make the brand "too urban" and called the claims absurd. "[I]t makes absolutely no sense that I would object to 50 Cent." Jeter said then that he could prove that he never agreed to a deal with Frigo anyway and was gathering all the documentation to file suit.
Frigo Keeps Firing
It seems that in the interim Frigo has found a new angle and is hitting Jeter with additional arguments about the contract he denies existed. Claims that he did not want the marketing to be "too gay" were made in documents filed just last week.
The company lawyer sounds eager to meet Jeter in court, telling reporters, "We look forward to cross-examining Jeter and his representatives under oath to expose his alleged frauds to the public. We also have numerous witnesses who are waiting for their chance to testify."
