Up until this point, law firm apps have been distinctly underwhelming, with large firms producing smart phone applications that are little more than a transparent marketing ploy.
What if this doesn't have to be the case? What if there was a way to use smart phone technology to market your law firm and help clients at the same time?
Luckily, there is, and it comes to you from the Scottish firm of MacRoberts.
Primarily representing employers, the law firm of MacRoberts has designed a free iPhone app that aims to provide its clients with basic, useful information about UK employment law.
After assessing its clients' daily needs and common concerns, the BBC reports that the firm decided to create an app that provides instant access to information on wrongful termination, maternity leave, equal pay, discrimination, as well as a compensation calculator for certain types of lawsuits.
It also links directly to important government sites, and updates automatically when changes are made.
Though no one is suggesting that law firm apps in the United States provide compensation calculators or detailed advice, every practice group deals with a specific set of legal regulations that leads to common client inquiries.
But when clients can't easily access those regulations (or don't want to pay you to find it for them), they're more likely to make uninformed decisions that run afoul of the law.
Law firm apps can help those clients help themselves, and when they can't figure it out, they can help them find you.
