CompuMark's Trademark Clearance Promises Fastest IP Search Ever

Trademark research is about as fun as combing through discovery. The slow, often tedious process normally involves lawyers or researches pouring through databases to make sure that the mark is available to be used and registered. That means long, slow searches through state and federal registrations, as well as looking for marks that are unregistered but in use. Don't forget about all the fun but hard-to-find variables like phonetic equivalents, spelling variations, and foreign language uses, either.

Thankfully, that painful, painstaking process got a little less tedious today, as Thomson Reuters announced a new online tool, Trademark Clearance, promising faster than ever turnaround times.

When Speed Is What You Need

The clearance tool is being offered through Thomson CompuMark, experts in brand protection and trademark research. (Disclosure: Besides being the good people who bring you Westlaw and Reuters, Thomson Reuters is FindLaw's parent company.) Trademark Clearance provides an interactive search engine on which customers can quickly search preexisting trademarks within minutes.

What makes Trademark Clearance stand out, however, is the speed at which it operates. "In today's digital economy, trademark professionals are facing unprecedented pressures to deliver informed counsel quickly and effectively to minimize risks to businesses," CompuMark's Mark Frost explained in an announcement from the company. IP professionals can use Trademark Clearance to get quick results, helping them mitigate against brand risks while also making tight deadlines.

DIY or Full Service

IP professionals can use Trademark Clearance as a standalone product or in conjunction with other CompuMark services. Customers can take a DIY approach, using the search tool to run their own trademark checks, much like lawyers researching precedent on Westlaw. Trademark Clearance is equipped with interactive tools to allow for greater collaboration and quick, focused search results.

Or, someone else can take care of that for you. CompuMark can also take your trademark clearance tasks off your hands and do a full service search for you. Their full search options can look at registered marks, acronyms, brand expansion opportunities, and use of the term throughout the U.S. marketplace, among other options. For professionals looking to get a product to market quickly, either choice is a good bet.
